問題解決力に関する質問の準備と対策
外資の英語面接で聞かれる、問題解決能力についての対策は２つのステップに分けて準備します。
ステップ１：問題解決の方法を手順ごとに英語で説明できるようにする
ステップ２：過去の経験から適切なエピソードを選択して英語で説明できるようにする
この順番で解説します。
ステップ１：問題解決を手順ごとに英語で説明
『問題』とは、本来あるべき姿が現実と乖離していることを意味しています。
『問題解決』とは、その乖離をなくして、本来あるべき姿にすること。
まず、この点を押さえておく必要があります。

Gap between actual and desired condition
この乖離をなくす作業が『解決』であり、そこには手順があります。
問題の明確化：Define the Problem
データ収集：Data Collection
分析：Analysis
複数仮説：Multiple Hypothesis
検証：Verify
このひとつひとつの手順を英語で説明できることが、ステップの１。
Starting by defining Problem is imperative.
If we define problem incorrectly, we’ll never
reach solution.
Once we define what the problem is, we then
collect relevant data associated to the problem.
Data collection must be commenced without bias.
Reaching root cause of a problem can be done in
a number of ways. To bypass complexity we use
multiple observation.
We use structured frameworks to generate
fact-based hypotheses followed by gathered data
and analysis.
Concluding step in the process is to prove or
disprove the derived hypotheses by
implementing raw data and back calculation.

質問ごとの英文回答は以下のとおりとなります。

When there’s a problem, I take a fact-based approach.
Define the problem, collect all relative facts.
Evaluate and analyze root cause and enumerate
multiple hypothesis. Verify each hypothesis and finalize.
先ほどの手順ごとの英語説明文をまとめることで回答が準備できます。

I must admit saying that my problem solving style is practical
& systematic. When I face a problem, I take a 5-step-approach.
Define, Collect Facts and Data, Analyze, Make a multiple
Hypothesis and Verify. Being particular about attention to
detail. Each steps are conducted thoroughly.
スタイルと尋ねているのでは、○○スタイルと回答して、具体的な手順を細く説明的に追記する構成でOKです。
I would measure my problem solving ability by the number of
cases that I participate. Since I take a typical practical &
systematic approach, managers from different business units
within the firm often asks me to be involved. Especially when
there’s a discrepancy in financial figures.
“ability” を尋ねる質問に回答するときは、具体的な数字などを示す回答設計にします。“ability（能力）” などは抽象的なので、数字を示すことで説得できるようになります。
ステップ２：問題解決エピソードを英語で説明
問題解決に関する過去の経験を話す時のフレームはSTARメソッドで構成します。
Situation：状況
Task：任務・使命
Action：行動
Result：結果
この各要素を含めて回答を設計します。

Tell me about a time when you solved a difficult problem.
このような質問に対する回答設計は先ほどおSTARメソッドのフレームを使用します。
Situation：状況→When I was working as a Customer Service Manager at XYZ, what I saw that was happening was an excessive rate of merchandise return on the week ofChristmas.
Task：任務・使命→敢えて、省略
Action：行動→I spearheaded an initiative, dived into the track data and figured out the root causes behind this excessive returns. I’ve partnered with the Customer Technology Department to get an access to a broader set of data to verify the hypothesis we derived from the data.
Result：結果→We asked the Customer Engineering Team to fix the cause and safely implemented on Christmas Eve.
